Sharon Perkins » About

My name is Sharon Perkins and my preferred pronouns are she/her/hers. I have worked here at the Academy of Alameda (AoA) for eleven years.
Fun Fact: My degree is in Aerospace Engineering, and my first job out of college was working on a rocket!
I became a teacher after years of coaching softball and realizing how much I loved working with students. Teaching math was a way to combine my engineering background with my love of working with kids! And I am so happy I made the switch!
Other Fun Facts: I coached an Alameda softball team that placed second at a Western Nationals tournament in Salem, Oregon. There were 4 former AOA kids on that team!
I love working with all ranges of kids and helping them discover that any student can be a mathematician. Each student comes to us with a unique perspective and relationship with math, and I being part of their journey is why I teach!
I love working with our students! They are a diverse and caring group of students who keep me motivated to stay at AoA. I also love how our teachers all work towards a common goal and vision of supporting our students to become strong and independent learners.
