About

Third Grade Math, Science, and Technology Teacher

My name is Kate McHenry, and I am a Bay Area native who loves teaching (of course!), reading, walking, and gardening. I earned my masters degree from U.C. Berkeley in genetics and plant biology and my teaching credential from Mills College. I taught sixth grade math and science at the Academy of Alameda for 8 years and am thrilled to be teaching third grade math and science for a third year.

You may be wondering “Why the switch to 3rd grade?”. My mission is to reach students sooner in order to provide a solid mathematical foundation for all students in third grade so that they are able to move forward as confident learners whose math skills meet or exceed grade level. As an educator, I am dedicated to providing each of my students with what they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

A fun fact about me is I waited to go to college until my late twenties. I was 32 when I earned my bachelors!
