Typical School Day

School days at the Academy of Alameda (AoA), a free, TK-8 public charter school, aren’t just limited to academic hours.

Beginning the Day

Free Breakfast

AoA’s breakfast program, which is free to all interested AoA students, begins at 7:45 a.m. on school days.

Student Arrival

TK-5 classes begin at 8:10 a.m. Families with TK-5 students can walk their students onto the blacktop or send them on their own to join their class for 8 a.m. morning announcements.


Classes for students in grades 6-8 begin at 8:30 a.m.

During the Day

Student Experience

AoA offers rigorous academics, pathways to advanced math, and an inclusive, age-appropriate social justice-oriented curriculum focused on community, advocacy, and multiple perspectives. To learn more about our curriculum, please check our “Curriculum” tab! 


Students in grades TK-5 follow a generally set schedule throughout the week and enjoy Physical Education (PE) and Spanish classes twice per week.


Students in grades 6-8 follow a rotating schedule to experience a variety of classes at different times throughout the week. These students can also enjoy electives in technology, art, and our award-winning band program.

1:10 PM - Elementary School Dismissal (Weds.)

1:30 PM - Middle School Dismissal (Weds.)

 

3:10 PM - Elementary School Dismissal (Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri.)

3:25 PM - Middle School Dismissal (Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri.)

 

5:30 PM - After-School Program Ends (Weds.)

6:30 PM - After-School Program Ends (Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri.)

Ending the Day

After-School Program

Students in AoA’s after-school program, Club Olympus, are able to extend their day with peers. Students receive healthy snacks and homework help and participate in activities such as enrichment, clubs, and field trips.
