About

Welcome!

My name is Leah Rubin, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the principal of The Academy of Alameda Elementary School. I am a first generation daughter of immigrants, born in Oakland, and raised in the East Bay. I am now in my 15th year as an educator, spending most of my career as a teacher and school leader in Oakland. In addition to dedicating my career to education, I am a lifelong learner who is always seeking to grow. I received a Bachelor’s in Sociology from UC Santa Barbara, and went on to earn my Master's in Education along with a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Cal State East Bay. After a decade in the classroom, I went back to graduate school, where I earned my second Master's degree, this time in Educational Leadership, along with my Administrator Services Credential from UC Berkeley. (Go Bears!)

School should be a place where students feel like they can be their true selves, where their ideas matter, and where students see themselves in what they are learning. As a school leader for social justice, I am driven by equity and committed to the well-being of all students and staff that I serve. I work to uphold The Academy's core values and mission, and I am also excited to partner with you to co-create a vision for our community’s future.

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my young children Lucia and Jude, my partner Luc (who is a 5th grade teacher), as well as my very large extended family and friends. On the weekends, catching up with friends, enjoying a delicious cup of coffee, traveling when we can, and caring for my many pets!

As your school leader, it is important to me that all who enter AoA feel welcome and valued. I am thankful to have the opportunity to be apart of this wonderful school community, and I look forward to getting to know you all.
